Media & Content

The Media & Content tab allows you to manage a few key aspects of the media and content that populate your site:

  • File Manager: Allows you to upload and organise all the images and files used throughout your website.
  • Announcements: Announcements are messages you display prominently on your homepage.
  • Manage generic content: This allows you to manage content which appears on every page. Predominantly, this will include your footer and sub-footer. Sometimes you will be able to edit other generic content from here, depending on your needs.
  • Places: Allows you to mark multiple places on a map and display this on a webpage. Note, you need to liaise with us to enable this functionality.

File Manager

The file manager hosts all of your images and files. At a basic level, it contains two top-level folders: "files" and "images". You can freely add as many sub-folders as you need to these top-level folders.

It is advisable to have a well-organised file structure here as it makes it a lot easier to subsequently find the images and files you need. Having clear and obvious image/file names also helps greatly with this.

Files/images can be uploaded by dragging and dropping them into the file manager, or by clicking upload and selecting the relevant files from your device.

Announcements

As mentioned, announcements are prominent messages which display on your homepage. As per the image below. You have several options when adding an announcement.

  • Title: What you want to call the announcement. This will not be visible to users.
  • Enable the announcement: You can manually enable and disable announcements, so you can have multiple announcements in reserve. Note, you cannot automatically enable an announcement at some future date/time, nor can you have multiple enabled announcements at the same time.
  • Announcement display type: There are three ways to display the announcement:
    • Popup box: A box that pops up in the middle of the home screen. A user will have to close the popup window to be able to continue viewing the site.
    • Slide-out tab: A tab which slides out from the left-hand side of the screen. A user can minimise this tab and continue scrolling but doesn’t have to dismiss the message.
    • Header banner: A static banner at the very top of the page that a user will see first. They can close this banner.
  • Delay before opening: You can decide whether there should be a delay of a few seconds before the announcement opens or not.
  • Should the announcement remain closed: Choose whether the announcement should remain closed after the user closes it, or whether it should reopen every time they reload the homepage.
  • Content: Where you actually put the content of the announcement. This can be edited like any other content box on your website.

Generic content

Clicking 'manage generic content' will take you to a list of generic content which you can edit on your site. This will vary slightly depending on your needs, but at a minimum, it will include columns in your footer and sub-footer.

This can be managed much like any other content boxes on your site as you’ll use the same editor to do this.

Places

Places are a particular feature which allows you to input various locations on a map, and have them all displayed on the map at once. This can be used to show locations of public toilets throughout a town, for example.

If this is a feature you would like to use on your site, please get in touch with us as it requires connecting to Google maps and we can guide you further on its use.
